Star Trek: First Contact doesn’t portray the real first contact between humans and Vulcans. The flashback scenes featuring young Wells feel like a call back to an episode in Star Trek: Enterprise. This latest episode, stepping away from the fourth TOS film, is appears more focused on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The second season has been filled with nods to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. The Borg Queen starts assimilating the soldiers. Soong, calling in a favour, acquires military help to take down Picard. She talks Soong into helping her with the Picard problem. The developing Borg Queen, after her little run-in with Seven and Raffi, meets up with Dr. Curiously, not before threatening her father with the police, Kore leaves the house. Kore Soong finally confronts her father about all the little secrets he’s been keeping. Will Rios talk Picard into letting Teresa and her son accompany them back to the future? It’s unlikely Rios cares much about such directives. Teresa Ramirez and son being about the ship is a clear violation of the Temporal Prime Directive. Rios, aboard the La Sirena, has even less to do than the rest of the cast. The same can be said for Captain Cristóbal Rios. Neither Seven nor Raffi have much to do in this episode. Whilst Seven and Raffi Musiker weren’t seen much during this episode, noting quantity doesn’t always mean quality, the little we did get is marvellously delivered. Raffi reveals she blames herself for Elnor’s death because she had talked him into staying at Starfleet Academy. Seven recognises part of Jurati is fighting for control. Jurati’s new-found agility comes from the Borg nanotech causing through her bloodstream. Seven and Raffi Musiker come face-to-face with the Borg Queen they know as Dr. Q isn’t the Q we knew from Star Trek: TNG. Q is dying and his powers are diminishing because of his pending death. It was initially assumed the flash was accidentally omitted from the instalment.
